Overview
This course presents the background essential to understand the transmission of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in healthcare settings and provides evidence-based information related to potential risks of exposure and procedures that promote a seamless response following occupational exposure including post prophylaxis and follow up. In addition, it provides evidence-based recommendations for granting graduated clinical privileges to clinicians infected with HIV predicated on their viral load and the likelihood of procedure-related provider-to-patient transmission of HIV.
