Waste Segregation
The various waste categories generated in oral healthcare facilities (office waste, hazardous waste, universal waste, and medical waste) must be separated at their points of origin. The process of segregating wastes into these categories requires an understanding of the definitions of each waste category. An overview of federal, state, and local hazardous and universal waste definitions and management regulations are available elsewhere.9,12,13
