Basic Instrument Design
One of the first considerations in instrument selection is to review the parts of the instrument and how they are incorporated into the design and utilization of the instrument (Figure 1). The handle, shank, functional end and working end (blade) are the parts that are all taken into consideration in the design of a specific instrument. These parts vary and can address how the instrument will function.
