Immediate implants and immediate custom healing abutments (or provisional restorations) help maintain and preserve the soft tissue height and profile from the time of extraction.^{36, 43} The custom healing abutment is attached to the implant (immediately following its placement) and left in place until osseointegration and tissue maturation are achieved. After the completion of the healing phase, the preserved soft tissue contour is replicated in the definitive restoration.⁴¹ Customized healing abutments may be fabricated using the direct or indirect method.
