Surgeon General’s Framework for Workplace Mental Health and Well-being: Five Essentials
The Surgeon General’s Framework for Workplace Mental Health and Well‑Being presents Five Essentials that support workplaces as drivers of well-being.28 As highlighted in the third Essential Work-Life Harmony, professional and personal life roles merge to create work and non-work conflicts. The ability to balance work with personal stressors reflects the human desire for autonomy and flexibility.
The key components of Work-Life Harmony include:
a) Providing more autonomy over how work is managed and performed;
b) Making work schedules as flexible and predictable as possible;
c) Increasing access to paid leave (such as sick and personal/family paid leave, and paid vacation time); and
d) Respecting.
