HIV-related Precautions

Oral HCP have both a moral (ethical) and legal obligation to provide care for HIV-infected patients within the scope of their practice.^26,27 Standard and Transmission-based Precautions are effective to prevent exposure to blood or OPIM and constitute the primary strategy for the prevention of healthcare-associated transmission of HIV in all healthcare settings.^16,28 Specific issues related to the dental management of patients with HIV infection are discussed elsewhere.^26,38
